Hard Rock Cafe Orlando Review: Is it still worth visiting at Universal Citywalk?

After working up an appetite following an action packed day at Universal Islands of Adventure, we were excited to return to the Hard Rock Café Orlando.  But the big question is, is it still worth visiting at Universal Citywalk? With two music mad teenagers in tow, we found out and this is our honest review of the Hard Rock Café Orlando

As soon as you approach Universal’s CityWalk, the Hard Rock Café dominates the skyline. Its façade, inspired by a Roman coliseum instantly signals the grandeur of what’s inside. Opened in 1990, this is not only the largest Hard Rock Café in the world, it’s also home to the world’s largest collection of music memorabilia, including entire rooms dedicated to John Lennon and The Beatles, plus artefacts from legends like Elvis Presley, Pink Floyd and Johnny Cash.

Inside, the atmosphere and décor are even more impressive than the exterior. Stained glass windows, painted domed ceilings and multiple levels of dining make this a totally different restaurant experience from most. Standing there as we waited to be seated, it was easy to understand why this venue draws visitors from all corners of the globe.

Before we even reached our table, we paused for one of the must-do traditions at the Hard Rock Café – holding the famous electric guitar for a photo. It’s a marketing gimmick, but you can also take your own photos, and it perfectly captures the spirit of Hard Rock Orlando: fun, playful and a music lover’s dream.

The restaurant is busy and loud, which might overwhelm some families, but for us, it’s part of the charm. The energy makes it feel more like a concert than a standard dinner, and the girls’ energy levels were high even after thousands of steps in the theme park.

We were seated on the upper floor, in a prime spot overlooking the main circular bar and the legendary pink 1959 Cadillac spinning above it. It’s one of those moments that makes you pause and soak it all in  and it’s a great photo opportunity.

Even with the restaurant bustling, our server was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The combination of a warm welcome and being back in this incredible venue instantly set the tone for a memorable evening.

After a hot day in the parks, drinks were our first priority. While the menu is extensive, our choice was simple: strawberry lemonade. Ice-cold and incredibly refreshing, it’s become something of a tradition for us.

While waiting for our meals, we wandered the vast, multi-level floors of music history on display. Everywhere you look, there’s something to catch your eye: guitars from Jimi Hendrix and Pete Townshend, Buddy Holly’s famous black glasses, and Elvis’s suit from Viva Las Vegas. For teenagers and grown-ups alike, it’s incredible to see.

No Hard Rock Café visit is complete without trying its nachos. We shared a portion to start, and they were as good as we remembered – loaded with toppings and just the right size for sharing.

For mains, we went for our long-time favourites: chicken and steak fajitas. Arriving on sizzling cast iron skillets, they were well worth the wait. The fajitas were generous and served with freshly made guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo. The warm tortillas came in a small paper bag to seal in the heat – a simple touch that makes all the difference. One of our daughters opted for the Hard Rock cheeseburger, which, like all our mains, was delicious.

The portions at Hard Rock are legendary, and desserts are no exception. We shared a hot fudge sundae served in a giant martini glass – more than enough for all four of us.

After dinner, we were lucky enough to step inside the world-famous John Lennon Room. For Beatles fans, this is an unforgettable experience.

Everything in the room is white, symbolising peace, simplicity and creativity. Artwork by Lennon, photographs of him with Yoko Ono, and a loveseat where he wrote some of his most famous songs make the space feel intimate and personal. Even the piano is remarkable – a replica with over 50 keys signed by musical icons, from Billy Joel to Herbie Hancock.

It’s moments like this that make Hard Rock Orlando feel like more than just a restaurant – it’s a destination in itself.

Before leaving, we always make a stop at the Hard Rock Shop to pick up some souvenirs. There is a wide range of T-shirts, pins and collectibles that capture the fun of the evening.

Next door is Hard Rock Live Orlando, a 3,000-person concert venue offering live shows and private events. It’s a reminder that this isn’t just a dining experience  it’s a full celebration of rock ’n’ roll culture.

Overall

Returning after two years, we wondered if Hard Rock Orlando could live up to our memories. It did in every way. From the outstanding service and incredible food to the inspiring memorabilia and high-energy atmosphere, this is hands down the best Hard Rock Café we’ve visited – and we’ve been lucky enough to visit many across the world.
