If you’ve got an upcoming hotel stay planned before Christmas, it’s worth having a quick look in your American Express app.
IHG and American Express have teamed up on a new cashback promotion that offers £75 back when you spend £300 at participating IHG hotels across Europe. While I couldn’t see the offer on any of my own Amex cards this morning, these deals are often targeted so it may still appear in your account.
With Christmas markets, festive city breaks and pre-Christmas shopping trips just around the corner, this could be a handy saving for families who already have a hotel stay booked.
What Is the Offer?
The new Amex Offer gives eligible cardholders £75 cashback when they spend £300 or more at participating IHG hotels before 31 December 2026. You’ll need to save the offer to your card first, and registration is limited to the first 50,000 cardholders.
Participating brands include Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, voco, InterContinental and Kimpton, among others.
Don’t Assume Your Booking Will Qualify
One thing to be aware of is that the terms state the offer is intended for checkout spend rather than prepaid bookings. However, hotel cashback offers can sometimes track successfully on prepaid rates if the payment is processed directly by the hotel.
The bigger issue nowadays is that some hotels send payment links before arrival. If your payment ends up being processed through a third-party provider rather than directly by the hotel, you may not receive the cashback.
Why This Could Be Useful for Families
£75 off a £300 spend is effectively a 25% saving, which isn’t bad at all.
Many families will easily hit £300 on a two-night UK break or a short European getaway during the run-up to Christmas. If you’re already planning a festive weekend away, this is the sort of offer that can take some of the sting out of rising hotel prices.
Even if you don’t have a booking yet, I’d still recommend checking your Amex Offers section and saving it if available. You never know when a last-minute hotel stay might pop up before the end of the year.
Can You Combine It with IHG One Rewards?
Potentially, yes.
IHG is currently running a promotion that offers bonus points on eligible stays through to the end of December, so if your stay qualifies you could earn IHG One Rewards points alongside the Amex cashback.
