If you’ve been thinking about joining Virgin Red, or know someone who hasn’t signed up yet, now could be the perfect time.
Virgin Red has launched what appears to be one of its most generous referral promotions to date, with both the referrer and the new member able to earn 6,000 Virgin Points each after qualifying activity is completed.
Given how valuable Virgin Points can be for flights, upgrades, hotel stays and experiences, this could be an easy way for households to boost their balance, particularly if family members already have an interest in collecting travel rewards.
What Is Virgin Red?
For anyone unfamiliar with the programme, Virgin Red is Virgin’s rewards platform that allows members to collect and spend Virgin Points across a wide range of Virgin and partner brands.
While many travellers are familiar with Virgin Flying Club through Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Red operates as a separate platform, although both use the same Virgin Points currency.
The two accounts can be linked, allowing members to view a combined points balance and redeem points across a much wider selection of rewards.
Beyond flights, Virgin Red offers opportunities to earn points through online shopping, travel bookings and various partner promotions, whilst also providing redemption options that aren’t available through Flying Club alone.
How The 6,000 Virgin Points Referral Offer Works
Existing Virgin Red members can refer friends or family members to join the programme before 30 November 2026. Once the new member signs up and completes their first qualifying earning transaction, both people receive 6,000 Virgin Points.
That’s a total of 12,000 Virgin Points being awarded from a single referral.
The person being referred must be aged 18 or over and resident in the UK.
What makes this promotion particularly appealing is that the qualifying transaction doesn’t need to happen immediately. According to Virgin Red’s terms, new members have up to 18 months after joining to complete their first eligible earning activity.
What Counts As A Qualifying Transaction?
Not every activity triggers the bonus.
The new member must complete an eligible earning transaction through Virgin Red, such as making a purchase through one of the shopping partners available within the platform. Certain activities, including transferring points in from American Express Membership Rewards or purchasing points directly, do not qualify.
That means it’s worth checking the terms carefully before assuming your first activity will unlock the bonus.
Why This Deal Stands Out
Travel loyalty programmes occasionally offer sign-up bonuses, but 6,000 Virgin Points for both parties is unusually generous.
Depending on how you use your points, 6,000 Virgin Points could be a useful boost towards a future flight redemption, upgrade or reward experience. Frequent travellers who strategically collect points may find that referring a spouse, adult children or parents can quickly add a significant number of additional points to their account.
Virgin Red currently allows members to receive up to 10 referral bonuses within a rolling 12-month period, meaning there is potential to earn as many as 60,000 Virgin Points through referrals alone.
When you consider that some long-haul business class reward flights can be booked for around that level of points, it’s easy to see why the promotion has generated attention amongst points collectors.
Already Have Virgin Flying Club?
One interesting aspect of the promotion is that someone can still be referred if they already hold a Virgin Flying Club account but have never registered for Virgin Red.
This means there may be many existing Virgin Atlantic customers who are eligible without even realising it.
One thing worth noting is that Virgin Red requires each member to have their own unique mobile phone number, which is verified during registration.
Is It Worth Signing Up?
If you collect Virgin Points, it’s difficult to ignore this promotion.
The sign-up process is free, Virgin Red regularly features useful earning opportunities, and the referral bonus is one of the strongest we’ve seen from the programme for some time. Even if you’re not immediately planning a redemption, 6,000 bonus points can provide a valuable head start towards a future reward.
For households where one person already has a Virgin Red account and another doesn’t, this feels like one of the easiest opportunities currently available to pick up a meaningful number of Virgin Points with relatively little effort.
As always with loyalty schemes, it’s worth ensuring you’ll actually use the points before signing up purely for the bonus. However, for those already interested in travel rewards, this is a promotion that could be well worth taking advantage of before it ends on 30 November 2026.
