Detailed Guide to Hotels at PortAventura World: Everything You Need to Know

If you are looking for a holiday destination to keep all the family entertained, that’s cheaper than Disney and less than 2 hours away from the UK, then PortAventura will be hard to beat.

PortAventura World is a huge theme park resort located in Salou on the Costa Dorada, Spain (you can read our review here). It’s one of the largest theme parks in Europe, offering a unique holiday destination for families with it’s three theme parks: PortAventura Park, Ferrari Land, and Caribe Aquatic Park, along with six themed hotels, each with their own benefits.

We have been to PortAventura World in Salou on the Costa Dorada several times and choosing the right hotel can make all the difference to your stay, but it can be overwhelming to decide which hotel at PortAventura is right for you.

In this guide we will cover all six on-site hotels at PortAventura World, rated from the most luxurious right down to the best value resort hotels.

Hotel Mansión de Lucy – 5*

Hotel Mansión de Lucy is a Victorian mansion-themed hotel with 31 rooms and it’s the only 5* property at PortAventura. This is a really impressive and striking building in the heart of Sullivan City in the Gold River complex with gorgeous Victorian styled rooms inspired by the gold mining era.

As this is such a small boutique hotel, Hotel Mansión de Lucy offers a level of personal service on a different level compared to the other hotels and is a good choice for those looking for the most luxurious surroundings when visiting PortAventura World.

The pool here has that exclusive ambience about it with padded sun loungers and parasols dotted around poolside. You also have access to all of the pools and facilities at the Hotel Gold River.

There are two categories of rooms to choose from here, deluxe superior rooms and the most exclusive and expensive rooms in the resort, the Suite Lucy rooms.

Deluxe Superior Lucy Rooms

Designed in a classic Victorian style, these rooms are elegant, comfortable and spacious at 35m2. Bathrooms here are just as elegant and spacious with separate shower and bath and upgraded Rituals toiletries. These rooms are best suited for adults or for families with younger children as although they accommodate 4 people, the room only offers a double bed and a sofa bed.

The room amenities at the Deluxe Superior Lucy Rooms are the most impressive out of all the on-site hotels, featuring

Suite Lucy Rooms

If you want to splurge on luxury during your stay here, then the hotel offers two suites, measuring from 50m2. These spectacular suites are like having your own apartment at the theme park and can comfortably accommodate 6 people.

Amenities and benefits of Hotel Mansión de Lucy

One of the main advantages of staying here is that everyone in your party receives unlimited entry to PortAventura and Ferrari Land and more importantly Express Premium for PortAventura Park, Ferrari Land, and Street Mission.

Some of the other amenities at the hotel include

• Snack bar serving a range of local, international and premium drinks
• À la carte restaurant serving international cuisine
• Outdoor pool –complimentary pool towels are included.
• Early access to the new ride Uncharted: El Enigma de Penitence 2 hours before PortAventura Park’s regular opening – between 8am – 10am.

Location

One of the best features of this hotel is its proximity to the theme park. The guest access into the park is just a 5 minute walk through the Gold River resort. A downside to staying here is it’s distance from Ferrari Land and Caribe Water Park, it’s a long walk through the PortAventura theme park or through the main car park.

Hotel Colorado Creek 4* premium

Hotel Colorado Creek is the newest hotel to open at PortAventura World, opening in 2019 with just over 300 rooms and lodges. This is a really beautiful property in a quiet corner of the resort, surrounded by trees and natural landscaping. The is themed around the American gold rush with rustic décor, very similar to a Wilderness Lodge or Sequoia Lodge property at Disney

Located in the Gold River complex alongside Hotel Gold River and Mansion De Lucy, this is one of the PortAventura’s premium 4* hotels and is a much higher standard than some of the other 4* hotels at PortAventura such as Hotel Caribe and Hotel El Paso.

Standard Rooms

The 141 standard rooms here are spacious at 45sqm and a slightly higher standard compared to the Hotel Gold River and have authentic western décor and styling. Their standard rooms are located in the separate Creek Valley building and feature

Deluxe Colorado Rooms

The 150 deluxe Colorado rooms are worth the upgrade and are located in the main building of the hotel. These rooms are more luxurious in their décor, bathrooms are larger and also come with additional benefits:

• Free Express Max for PortAventura Park (one per person and valid for a maximum of 2 consecutive days of use):
• Complimentary water (two bottles per room upon arrival at the hotel)
• Premium breakfast buffet
• Upgraded Rituals bathroom amenities
• Luggage delivery service

River Bungalow rooms

For parties of up to 6, the hotel also offers River Bungalow rooms, which are separate wooden lodges in the woods of the grounds between the Hotel Colorado Creek and Hotel Gold River. These offer more apartment style lodging with a small kitchen, living area and separate bedrooms.

Location

Although Hotel Colorado Creek is in the Gold River complex, it’s the furthest away of the three hotels here from the hotel guest entrance to the Far West area of the theme park but is perfect for those looking for a more secluded location away from the hustle and bustle of the parks.

The guest entrance for direct access to PortAventura is a 10-15 minute walk through the grounds of the Hotel Gold River and it’s the furthest hotel away from both Ferrari Land and the Caribe water park. Similarly if you are looking to go into Salou, then it’s worth noting that this hotel is the furthest away out of all of the on-site hotels at PortAventura.

Hotel PortAventura 4*

The 4* Hotel PortAventura is the flagship hotel, themed like a quaint Mediterranean fishing village surrounded by beautiful landscaping and a lake.

It’s one of the largest properties at PortAventura with 500 rooms, all of which underwent a stylish refurbishment in 2019.

Standard rooms

Rooms here are spacious at 24m2 and modern with 2 double beds so they are perfect for a family of four.  We love the fact that lots of the rooms here have balconies and I’d recommend trying to book a room with a pool view.

Rooms have plenty of storage space and all the facilities required for a comfortable stay including:

•  Air conditioning (between 10 Apr and 01 Nov).
• Safe, hairdryer
• Mini fridge
• High speed WiFi

Suites

If you are looking for even more space, the hotel also offers junior suite and suite rooms both of which come with free express pass premium for the main PortAventura park.

Some of the hotel’s amenities include:

• Three outdoor pools including one for children
• A spa and fitness center
• 3 restaurants including 2 buffet restaurants and 1 à la carte restaurant
• 2 bars including a coffee bar and pool bar serving a range of local drinks
• On-site gift shop
• Evening entertainment for families including in-house entertainment shows and mini-disco. (available between 01 May and 20 Sep)

Location

One of the best features of this hotel is its location, within the grounds of PortAventura. The hotel offers a private guest entrance straight into the Mediterrània area of PortAventura Park and it’s also on the doorstep of the Caribe waterpark and Ferrari Land.

Hotel Gold River 4*

Hotel Gold River is a Wild West-themed hotel, located next to the Far West area of the PortAventura theme park. This hotel is designed to resemble an old-fashioned frontier town called Sullivan City, cleverly creating a really immersive Wild West experience with wooden buildings, saloons, and a large central square.

The Gold River hotel has over 500 rooms located in several themed buildings, and there is also the smaller and more exclusive Hotel Callaghan featuring superior rooms

Standard Rooms

Standard rooms are decorated in an old-fashioned style with wood floors, white wood furniture, wrought-iron headboards, quilted bedspreads, plaid curtains and armchairs, and floral artwork.

These rooms are spacious and can comfortably accommodate a family of 4 and are located in several themed buildings around the resort, although my preference would be the rooms in the main city hall building.

2-bedroom family rooms

Hotel Gold River also offer 2-bedroom family rooms which offer more apartment style rooms with a small kitchen area, living room and 2 bedrooms. These rooms are also bookable without the interconnecting room but I would opt for the 2 double bed standard rooms in the main building.

Callaghan Rooms

The Callaghan rooms at the Hotel Gold River are the nicest rooms at the hotel, located in a separate building. Not only are the rooms more spacious and a higher standard it also has its own dedicated reception area and breakfast room.

Location

The hotel’s location is one of its biggest selling points, as it provides direct access to the Far West area in Port Aventura via a dedicated hotel guest only entrance gate. A downside to staying here is it’s distance from Ferrari Land and Caribe Water Park, it’s a long walk through the PortAventura theme park or through the main car park..

PortAventura Hotel Caribe 4*

Hotel Caribe is PortAventura’s tropical themed hotel and an entire complex in itself Although this is a 4* hotel it would be toward more of the budget end of the hotels at PortAventura and is designed to resemble a Caribbean island, with lush gardens, palm trees, and a large beach style lagoon pool.

With just under 500 rooms across its 15 block style buildings, each of which has been inspired by and named after a different Caribbean island and come with their own balcony or terrace.

Standard Rooms

Standard rooms at PortAventura Hotel Caribe are 24m2 so can comfortably accommodate 4 people, but rooms here could do with a little modernisation.

For families looking for extra space, the hotel offers family rooms which consist of two double or twin rooms with an interconnecting door.

Standard facilities  include:

San Juan rooms

To upgrade your stay here its well worth considering their San Juan rooms, which are more spacious than their standard rooms at 32m2 and come with added benefits such as

Some of the hotel amenities at the Hotel Caribe include:

• One indoor pool and 3 outdoor pools including pool with children’s section
• 4 bars including a pub, lounge bar and pool bar serving a range of local drinks.
• 3 restaurants including 1 buffet restaurant and 2 à la carte restaurants.

Location

You might think that this hotel is located next to the Caribe water park given its name, but in fact it’s one of the furthest away – approximately a 10-15 minute walk. However it is the closest hotel to Salou, within a 10 minute walk you will be at the beaches and commercial centre.

Hotel El Paso 4*

Hotel El Paso is a Mexican-themed hotel with 501 rooms that’s popular with families as this is the only all-inclusive hotel at PortAventura and offers good value.

The 4* Hotel El Paso is designed to resemble a traditional Mexican hacienda, with colourful buildings, cobbled streets, and the rooms here are located in 6 buildings around a central courtyard.

Standard Rooms

Standard rooms are 26m2 and require some modernisation. Rooms here either offer a small ground floor terrace, but also offer rooms with balconies which are popular and worth requesting on booking.

Woody and Friends deluxe rooms

To make a stay at the Hotel El Paso more memorable for kids, it’s worth checking out their Woody and Friends deluxe rooms. These rooms have been designed especially for kids with Woody Woodpecker theming, the parks mascot. An added bonus of these rooms is that it also includes:

• A 1 day Express Premium for PortAventura Park

Amenities of Hotel El Paso

Some of the amenities here include

• 3 bars including a pool bar serving a range of local drinks
• 2 restaurants including 1 buffet restaurant called Merida and 1 à la carte restaurant El Coyote, serving a range of international and Mexican cuisine
• 2 outdoor pools including children’s pool with its own pirate ship

Location

The hotel does not have its own hotel guest entrance to the park but it is very close to the main public entrance of PortAventura – a 5 minute walk away. Next to the hotel PortAventura, it’s also the closest hotel to Ferrari Land and the Caribe Water Park.

Benefits of the on-site hotels at PortAventura

Rooms are available from 3 pm, however you can arrive earlier at the hotel and, once you have checked in, you will be given your park passes to start enjoying the park.

Whichever hotel at PortAventura you choose, staying on-site comes with a range of benefits. One of the biggest advantage as a hotel guest is that you get as standard

One of the biggest benefits of staying at an on-site hotel is the convenience it offers. You’ll be just a few minutes’ walk from the parks, meaning you can easily come and go as you please. This is particularly useful if you have young children who may need to take a nap or rest during the day.

Themed Accommodation

Staying at an on-site hotel can be a really fun and immersive experience and extend your theme park experience thanks to the themed accommodation on offer. From Wild West-themed rooms, to Mexico to Mediterranean-style villages, there’s something to suit every taste and budget.

Plus, all of the hotels have their own pools, restaurants, and other amenities, making them a great base for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.

Exclusive Access

Guests staying at the Gold River, Colorado Creek and Mansion de Lucy hotels currently have exclusive access to the brand new Uncharted ride each day between 8am-10am, outside of regular opening hours.

Dining Options

At PortAventura World, there are lots of dining options to suit all tastes and budgets. I would recommend booking a package that includes at least half board, and dependent on the upgrade cost I would opt for full board.

The upgrade is well worth it as it allows you to dine around during lunch at the restaurants in the theme park or in the brand new La Liga restaurant at the entrance to the PortAventura Park. There may be a small supplement to pay on top, as each adult has 19.90 euro credit for lunch and 13.50 euro credit for children.

Packages and Discounts

Staying at an on-site hotel can also be more cost-effective than staying elsewhere, especially if you take advantage of package deals and discounts.

For example, look at booking holiday packages with Jet2 Holidays that also include your flights, transfers, park tickets and meals which can often work out cheaper than booking a flight and accommodation separately.
