Hotel Review – Hilton Cobham – Why you should Namastay here for Chessington

If you are looking for a hotel as a base for your visit to Chessington or Thorpe Park, then take a look at the Hilton Cobham. We stayed one night at this hotel and it was a great place to relax and escape from the hustle and bustle of the theme parks.

The hotel has undergone refurbishment in recent years and this is evident in the modern and stylish interiors throughout the hotel which belies its exterior. Car parking was complimentary and there were lots of spaces available. The hotel has 158 rooms across three different categories – standard, deluxe and suites.

We had a lovely warm welcome from the reception staff as Hilton Gold guests and the check in process was very quick and efficient and within minutes we were handed the keys to our room and the girls excitedly led the way with their key in hand to find our room.

Our King Wellness Suite

We checked into our spacious King Wellness Suite at the Hilton Cobham, which was perfect to recharge our batteries after a long drive down to Surrey for our trip to nearby Chessington theme park the next morning.

The suite was recently refurbished and tastefully decorated, a good choice for our family of four.  The room consisted of a master bedroom with a really comfortable king size bed and a separate living area for the girls where their double sofa bed was located.

When we arrived in the room there was a bowl of complimentary fresh fruit, chocolates and fruit infused water which was a lovely gesture.

It’s worth noting that the King Wellness suites at the Hilton Cobham offered upgraded facilities such as bathrobes and slippers but many of which were unique to any other Hilton hotel that we have been at before.

This included yoga equipment which the girls loved, Himalayan salt lamps, essential oil diffusers, lavender pillow mist and bath bombs – according to the Hilton website we should also have received face masks but for some reason these were not in our room.

The girls in particular were more than happy to relax in their own area of our suite watching their favourite channels on their large wall mounted TV or using the complimentary hi-speed WiFi to watch Netflix on their iPads.

Thankfully my husband and I had our own space and TV in our own section of our family room where the master bedroom was located. Another bonus of choosing a suite in the Hilton Cobham is that we didn’t have to go to bed at the same time as the kids which typically is what happens when you all share a room.

The bathroom, although a little compact for a suite was modern and clean with a large walk-in shower and lots of soft white fluffy towels and plenty of complimentary toiletries.

Our room had all the mod cons you would want from a four star hotel offering all the facilities you require for a comfortable stay including:

  • 2 large flat screen televisions,
  • Air conditioning,
  • A mini fridge with complimentary still and sparking water for Hilton Gold guests,
  • A safe, iron and iron board.
  • Tea and coffee making facilities.

Facilities

This is where the hotel could do more for the family market as although we were just using the hotel as a quick overnight base there was little in the way of on-site facilities to keep families entertained. The hotel swimming pool has been replaced with a new gym, and I’m not sure if it’s planned as part of future investment but the tennis courts need refurbishment, however this didn’t stop the girls having fun practicing their netball skills on the basketball net on one of the courts.

The hotel is nestled within 27 acres of the Surrey’s woodland and although the M25 was literally on the doorstep of the hotel it was nice to have this outside space to explore.

Dining

Although the hotel is only a short drive away from numerous restaurants, after a busy day we didn’t want to venture out again and chose to make it easy dining at the hotel’s restaurant for our evening meal.

It was really family friendly with a children’s menu to choose from and the staff were so welcoming and friendly toward the girls, although the service was a little mixed. Prices are what you would expect at a 4-star hotel for evening meals, however children under 12 eat free when dining with an adult, which I thought was good value.

We started our meal with the delicious toasted sourdough with tomato and mascarpone Venetian dip to nibble on while looking over the menu.

For mains I chose the sirloin steak and my husband selected the rib eye steak and chunky chips, whilst the girls chose battered cod and chips and pizza and chips – all of which were delicious.

To finish the girls selected the Knickerbocker glory which was big enough to share.

Breakfast

Breakfast at the Mediterranean Grill the next morning offered your standard Hilton breakfast and had an excellent selection of food on offer from hot cooked breakfast to small pastries, fruit and cereals and set us up perfectly for our visit to Chessington.

Overall and is it family friendly?

Definitely, the Hilton Cobham hotel is an excellent family friendly hotel and is recommended for a stay if you are visiting nearby attractions such as Chessington (15 minutes away) or Thorpe Park if you can secure a good deal on the Hilton website.

Other places worth visiting close to the hotel include Hampton Court Palace, Painshill Park, Top Golf Surrey and Brooklands Motorsport and Aviation Museum.
