Pirate Cove Adventure Golf Review

This is my review of the newly opened Pirate Cove Adventure Golf on Aberavon Sea front in Port Talbot, South Wales. Aberavon Beach is part of Swansea Bay which is one of the largest bays in Europe with fantastic views of the city of Swansea and Mumbles.  On a clear day you can see over the water to North Devon in the distance.

It is a 12-hole mini golf course set around a fun pirate theme and is a great place to go with the kids. Who doesn’t like pirates?  The course is very child friendly with lots of colours and has  been designed and run by a local company called The Natural Play Company.

My daughter loved pretending to put her head into the upside down shark at the entrance to the attraction.

We visited on a hot afternoon and there seemed to be a big queue but this was actually for the kiosk serving beverages, ice creams and refreshments.  The desk for the mini golf was around the back of the building and there was no queue.  They could do with better signage for the entrance to the pay desk as many potential customers could be put off by a queue that is nothing to do with the attraction.

Upon payment you receive your putters and score card.   They have catered well for young children as the girls were given child sized putters and got to choose their unique colour of ball from a range of colours.

The course was fun with differing challenge levels with clear instructions at every hole. There is a giant sized ship wrecked pirate galleon, five-foot-high pirate face carvings, treasure chest obstacles, shark fin carvings and pirate statues.

The girls’ favourite hole was the last one with a giant shark coming out of the water that you had to get around to reach the hole.

We had a lot of fun and it got a bit competitive, especially between the adults and it was a brilliant way to spend a summer’s day.  The girls liked keeping score and counting their shots even though many of the holes that they declared ‘three’ when they successfully made a putt were a lot higher than that!

We played a round of golf for £3.00 per person and if you would like to go back around the course again there was an additional £1.00 charge.  I thought this was great value for money.  Please note however that you can only pay by cash.  It would be more convenient if they would accept card payments in the future.

The mini golf attraction is a great asset and a much needed improvement to this fantastic sea front.  The Pirate Golf is open from 9.30am until 8.30pm.
