Review – Hampton by Hilton Bristol Airport

With our flight to Lapland leaving at 6am in the morning from Bristol Airport we wanted our trip to start as stress free as possible. A brand new Hampton by Hilton Bristol hotel has recently opened literally opposite the terminal, so it made sense to stay the night before.  This meant that we were able to skip a 2am journey to the airport and get a good night’s sleep before our flight.

As Hilton Gold members we have stayed at many Hilton hotels across the world, but this was our first time at a Hampton by Hilton hotel. We have always overlooked the Hampton by Hilton brand assuming it was a budget hotel brand, but how wrong we were – the Hampton by Hilton Bristol Airport was a very impressive hotel.

This is our review of the Hampton by Hilton Bristol Airport.

Entering the hotel and its bright and modern open plan lobby made a great first impression.

We were warmly welcomed to the hotel by the friendly reception staff, and were told that our room had a runway view.  This was so exciting for the girls especially Holly who loves planes.

Our queen family room was on the top floor of the hotel and although not particularly spacious it was brand new, modern and spotless.

Our rooms contained the facilities you’d expect in this standard of hotel – large flat screen TV, complimentary high speed WiFi (free for Hilton Honours members – which is free to join), tea and coffee making facilities and a selection of magazines.

There was also a spacious work desk and plenty of plug sockets in the room to ensure that all of our gadgets could get charged before our flight the next day.

One of the key features of a stay at a Hampton by Hilton is their signature beds and our queen bed didn’t disappoint – it was super comfortable with a thick duvet and huge pillows. We also had a double sofa bed in our room for our two children, so space was at a premium but it never felt cramped.

The smart en-suite bathroom had a lovely walk-in shower, soft fluffy towels and plenty of complimentary toiletries which smelt great.

As we are Hilton Gold members we also received a free drink and snack from the bar in the lobby of the hotel. It was only by chance we realised this benefit, when my husband asked the reception staff what benefits Hilton Gold guests receive.

Typically as Hilton Gold guests staying at a Hilton hotel you would receive complimentary water in your room, so this was a nice benefit of staying in a Hampton by Hilton.

There were lots of nice communal spaces to relax in, with a bar and restaurant in the lobby area with plenty of comfortable seating areas. If you are feeling energetic there was also an on-site gym located off the main lobby area.

We don’t tend to travel light, and with 4 cases there wasn’t a lot of storage space available in the room but it wasn’t a big issue for a quick overnight stay.

Having the extra time in bed without having to get the children up in the middle of the night is the major benefit of staying at this hotel. It’s so close to the airport you can literally see it from the airport terminal or even from the runway as you take off.  The soundproofing of the rooms is superb with triple glazed windows.  We didn’t hear any aircraft noise and together with the blackout curtains we had a great sleep.

Breakfast is included in all room rates at Hampton by Hilton hotels and is served from 4am and looked pretty good with a wide range of cereals, pastries, breads and hot breakfast items which are served from 6am. As we had to get up at 4:30am it was way too early for breakfast, although we did have some hot drinks and toast.

A nice feature in the hotel were the live flight information screens, so we could check the status of our plane before making the 5 minute walk to the terminal to check-in for our flight.

Car parking is available at the hotel at an additional charge, but I would recommend looking at the long stay or premier parking options at the airport, which are close to both the hotel and the terminal. It’s also worth signing up on the Bristol Airport website for a 10% discount on your parking.

Overall

The Hampton by Hilton Bristol Airport is an excellent family friendly hotel and is highly recommended if you have an early morning flight or live a long way from the airport. y.

Prices at the Hampton by Hilton Bristol Airport start from a very reasonable £67 for a queen room with sofa bed including breakfast when booking direct at www.hilton.com as part of the Hilton Honours Advance Discount Purchase rate.
